iMac G3 Aquarium — Someone Turned a 1999 Computer Into a Fish Tank and It’s Flawless
Steve Jobs never intended for his iMac G3 to house a crab and a treasure chest. And yet here we are, and it’s better this way.
This handmade aquarium is carved out of an original iMac G3 — the translucent blueberry one from 1999 that your elementary school computer lab had. Where a CRT monitor used to live, there’s now a fully functioning fish tank complete with plants, substrate, lighting, and what appears to be a tiny armored crab guarding sunken treasure.
It is, objectively, the best use of obsolete Apple hardware since someone turned a Mac Pro cheese grater into an actual cheese grater.
The Details:
- Original iMac G3 shell, fully converted
- Built-in LED lighting
- Complete aquascape with live plants and decorative elements
- Handmade by Jake Harms — each one is unique
- Price: $399
This is the kind of thing that sits in your living room and makes every single person who visits ask “wait… is that a fish tank inside a computer?” Yes. Yes it is. Blame the internet.
